Am I becoming a Leftist?

Read a book by Chomsky (Hopes and Prospects). Startling in his cynicism about the military-industrial complex running US foreign policy (leftist theme for many years), but more disturbing to me because I can't really see that he is wrong. I didn't think I was an instinctive anti-American, but without subscribing to conspiracy theories, it does seem that world events are guided by the interests of US big business. Makes me look at Libya and Syria issues in a different way. Uncomfortable question - if this is now the way the world works, what should a British government do? Surely not support the US in every way, as Blair did. But can we do anything on our own without US backing? Constructive and independent pan-European foreign policy makes sense, but I can't see any British party suggesting it at the next election.
